Answers to the questions pilots ask most. The in-game Guide (the ? in the top bar, or Esc › Guide in a run) explains every part, stat and mechanic.
Playing
Where can I play?
In your browser at haltcraft.com/play, with nothing to install, and soon on Steam for Windows and Linux (SteamOS included). Both play on the same server with the same pilots.
What do I need?
A desktop or laptop computer with a keyboard and mouse, a graphics card that supports WebGL 2 (practically any from the last ten years, with current drivers), and an internet connection: your robots, items and progress live on our server, so the game is always online. In the browser, current Chrome, Edge and Firefox work best.
Controls
| W A S D | Drive, walk or fly (arrow keys work too) |
| Mouse | Aim; left button fires the selected weapons, right button zooms or detonates mines |
| 1–9, wheel | Pick a weapon group |
| Space / Shift | Jump, boost or climb / descend or sprint |
| Q E F C | Abilities |
| V | Switch between the chase camera and your cockpits |
| R | Flip your robot back upright |
| Esc | Menu (settings, guide, end run) |
| Enter | Chat |
Every combat key can be rebound in Settings › Controls.
Your pilot
How do accounts work?
Your pilot is an account on our server: a username and password, or your Steam account in the Steam version (it signs you in by itself). On the Pilot screen (your name, top right) you can add another way to sign in, for example a password to your Steam pilot so you can also play in the browser.
I forgot my password.
If your pilot also signs in with Steam, sign in that way and set a new password on the Pilot screen.
My settings reset.
Settings (graphics, sound, controls) belong to the computer, not the pilot, so a new browser or computer starts with the defaults. Your robots, items and credits are always on the server.
Problems
"Can't reach the server"
The game keeps retrying on its own and carries on once the server answers. If a maintenance restart was announced in the game, give it a minute.
A black screen, or the game won't start
Update your graphics drivers. In a browser, make sure hardware acceleration is turned on and that WebGL 2 works.
It runs slowly
In Settings › Display, lower the resolution or the render scale and turn shadows down; the FPS counter there shows what helps. On laptops with two graphics chips, make sure the game runs on the faster one.
